Thursday, December 12, 2019; At Sea, Phuket to Bali Day 2

Thursday, December 12, 2019; At Sea, Phuket to Bali Day 2

After sleeping in to help get Janet over her cold, we grabbed coffee and a danish at the International Cafe and met our trivia team for morning trivia.  We missed winning by 2 points, not knowing the year of Shakespeare’s birth, or the author of Robinson Crusoe.  We also missed the title of the person in charge of the Queen’s clothes, and the seat of intelligence, according to Aristotle.

The weather has been in the mid 80’s with passing showers interspersed with intense tropical sun.  The humidity has been in the upper 70’s.  Ben hit the fitness center, which is nicely air conditioned.  It’s funny to see some of the men who walk around the open deck around the fitness center outside the glass shirtless in swim trunks with physiques that are really not attractive.  The women seem to have more sense.  There are certainly many more younger people using the fitness center, but it is still no trouble to find a treadmill or elliptical machine to use after 10am.

The ship crossed the equator today and hosted a ceremony at the pool deck for those wishing to be initiated by King Neptune and his minions. This usually involves being smeared with various food items, kissing a fish, and then getting doused with buckets of water and then walking the plank into the swimming pool.  We certainly hope they drain and clean the pool after those festivities.

We grabbed burgers from the poolside grill and watched briefly, but it was hot and humid enough that we resolved to watch it later on the TV reflections video filmed by the ship and sold on DVD to guests.  There were lots of kids that were participating, so it probably was more exciting than our multiple past equatorial crossings when the demographics of the passengers was skewed some 20-30 years older than this one.

We got in a long nap after lunch to help with recovery from our colds.  We did attend the afternoon trivia, but discovered that it was a repeat of one they had 3 weeks ago for us, but not for our other team mates.  We let our other team mates figure out the answers with minimal hints and managed to win.  We donated our prizes of wine bottle stoppers to newbies around us since we don’t really have any weight allowance to bring souvenirs home in our airline luggage.  Since the morning trivia was an all new quiz for us, we were hoping not to have more repeats, but we may soon be done with afternoon and evening trivia’s if they are going to be repeats.  Now we know what it feels like to be “That team” that wins all the trivia’s, and that’s not so much fun.

There was a Disney trivia and TV Themes trivia’s scheduled for the evening. We opted not to do the Disney trivia suspecting that to be a repeat, and to let the kids play that one. We watched the Princess Theater show which was a solo cabaret by one of the two female production show lead singers, Rebecca Elliott.  We always thought she was the better of the two singers, and she proved herself with her show as worthy to be her own headliner.

We did do the TV Themes trivia, and teamed up with two couples who had not previously won.  We had won the TV Themes trivia on the last cruise segment, and unfortunately, this trivia was another repeat.  Again, we let our teammates work out most of the questions with minimal hints, and we chalked up another win, giving the Champagne bottle to the other couple who had not previously won.  I guess we will be watching more of the Movies on Demand for the last few days of this cruise.  We have another sea day tomorrow before arriving at Bali.
