Day 16: 20231008 Sunday, October 8 2023- At Sea, Hawaii to Tahiti

All of these sea days emphasize what a monumental event it must have been for Polynesians to set sail across these waters using the stars and their wits to not only navigate but also to survive and thrive.  We complain about the ship’s air conditioning not being able to maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature for us, but these are clearly first world complaints.  Our routine has been simpler since we have both been recovering from a cold virus that seems to have swept through much of the ship’s population.  One of our trivia partners has been MIA the last 2 days, presumably recovering in her stateroom.  Her brother who is also on our trivia team says she’s doing OK, but wants to be well rested and recovered for our arrival in Tahiti tomorrow.

Between the fan we obtained from our room steward and improvised swamp cooler, we’ve been able to get our overnight temperatures down to around 75˚F with 37% humidity- comfortable enough to sleep.

The cruise staff decided to wrap up the progressive trivia game with today’s final.  We finished in second place 2 points behind the leaders with 103 pts vs 105.  Since there are only 2-3 sea days between Tahiti and Auckland, it’s not clear if there will be any more progressive games.

The vocalist who really belted out the diva songs last time put on a second show, but this time, it was all songs by male vocalists like Bruno Mars, Phil Collins, and Lionel Ritchie.  These all left her stuck at the bottom of her vocal range, so the show ended up with a much more 2D impression.  I suppose this show gives her voice a chance to rest up for her other much more dynamic and exciting show, but it seems a bit of a waste of a great talent.

Tomorrow we arrive at Papétte Tahiti in the morning, so we have to hit the sack early to catch the sail in.
