20240924- Tuesday, September 24, 2024- Leaping forward in time

Monday, September 23, 2024- A Day that Didn’t Exist.  While we slept last night, the TARDIS, cleverly disguised as the Viking Orion, transported us all into Tuesday, September 24, 2024.  This isn’t our first time skipping a day heading westward across the International Date Line, but it is still disorienting.  My daily pill box doesn’t know what to do with the skipped over Monday.  We did receive certificates for crossing the International Date Line, but it's not like crossing the Equator where they have a more formal initiation.

On our last transpacific cruise, we learned the intricacies of manually setting the date and time on our Apple devices to match the ship’s arbitrary time zone in the absence of land based cellular network time servers, which Apple normally uses to automatically set time and dates on their devices.

Even though we have been gaining back an hour with each time zone we pass, it seems to be harder to get up in the mornings.  We did manage to get to the Restaurant in time to have lamb chops again for breakfast.

Sea Days on Viking are a lot easier to plan around than on Princess because there is only a single Trivia Quiz each sea day at 12:15pm.  On Princess, there may be 3 or even 4 different kinds of trivia on a sea day.

Today was the second progressive trivia, and at the conclusion of the 15 point quiz, we felt much better than we had yesterday.  When they announced a 4 way tie in the top 3 standings, we were prepared to enter into a neck and neck race for the progressive title.  But, the 4 way tie was for 2nd place with 9/15 points.  We somehow managed to be the only team with a perfect score of 15/15, thus cementing a little more comfortable lead in the progressive rankings.  But all it takes is one off day to fall off the lead, so we were happy to have a little padding.  There was a tie breaker that wasn’t used, and that was how many people survived the Titanic sinking (705).  An even harder question would have been how many dogs survived (3).

The afternoon was lunch, naps, work outs and thermal spa time.  The seas have been unbelievably calm today, looking like a duck pond rather than a more stereotypical Bering Sea.

We snuck a look in our stateroom under repair and saw that the tiles had been replaced but had not been caulked yet.  The door was still off the bathroom and things were still under tarps.  We hope not to get kicked out of the Penthouse suite for another night or two.

We did get some laundry done today.  The launderettes on Viking Ocean ships are free of charge and include detergent but can be busy at times.

We were able to snag reservations for an early Manfredi’s dinner from our Trivia partners who didn’t  want their standing reservation.  It was much less crowded and noisy than other times we have dined in there.  We are working our way through their menu.  While the food is well prepared and quite filling, the food in the Restaurant is about as good.

There was a ventriloquist in the theatre tonight, Don Bryan and his puppet Noseworthy.  He put on a pretty good comedic show, although the humor started off aimed at a much older audience than the Viking demographic (probably more Holland American).  He did have a second puppet that he could somehow operate the lips hands off while he manipulated his other puppet as it sang a song.  He did use an audience member as a human dummy for one short sketch.

Our clocks go back another hour tonight.
