Wednesday, February 7, 2018- Cruise Day 15; At Sea

Wednesday, February 7, 2018- Cruise Day 15; At Sea

We started with partly clear blue skies and a temperature the 80’s outside our door.  There were scattered fishing boats, although the coastline of Brazil was out of sight, so we must be at least 25 miles off shore.  We are continuing south and have past the easternmost point of Brazil.  Janet skipped breakfast, while Ben made a trip to the Horizon Court, followed by walking the halls back to the room.

We attended the 9:45AM trivia and played with Bob from NJ, Roger (Santa) from AZ and Cathy & John from Miami & Myrtle Beach.  We scored 13/20 while the winners scored 18/20.  We had a hard time believing that Australia was the 3rd country in the world to put a satellite into earth orbit.  The winners got wine bottle stoppers.

Ben stayed for a presentation on future cruise booking tips, while Janet attended a seminar on Emeralds, which included a raffle.  Unfortunately, Janet didn’t win the raffle.  The Jewelry store gives out nice gifts in their raffles, which typically include an Effy scarf and a pendant or other piece of jewelry.

We had a nice sit down lunch and then spent some time in the fitness center to work off some guilt.

We entered a Paper Airplane contest to throw your plane through a hoola hoop held about 30’ away and 8’ off the ground.  There were probably 25 entries, and only one person managed to get his plane through the hoop.  Our planes flew OK, but off target. The winner got a wine bottle stopper.

We then attended the 3:30PM afternoon trivia with just Roger and us.  We managed only 10/20, while the winners had 16. They won aluminum water bottles.

Janet returned to the Emerald display to enter a contest to guess the karat weight of an emerald on display.

We had made dinner reservations and had a flash dinner with dessert.  When the waiters are aware that you want to try to make the early show, they can move fast.  We got nice seats in the second row for a talented vocalist who did broadway songs.  Todd Adamson won the Los Angeles equivalent to the NY Tony awards for his starring role in Memphis.  He did numbers from Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and Queen- We Will Rock You, and a few other musicals. He put on a really good show, backed by the Island Princess orchestra.

We then got our AM trivia team back together for the 7:30PM Beatles music trivia and won with a 12/13 score.  Cathy is a rabid Beatles fan, and we had been scrutinizing our Beatles iTunes inventory since last night.  We won a bottle of champagne, which will be converted to Mimosas in the morning for tomorrow’s AM Trivia.

We finished the evening by watching “Goodbye Christopher Robin” at Movies under the stars.  The sky was actually cloudy, but the temperature was 80 degrees and it was mildly muggy, but not uncomfortable.  There was supposed to be stargazing with Discovery at Sea, but the clouds pretty much shut that down.

We returned to the room just as the Wake Show came on and Janet won another Wake show drawing.  We’ll have to see what prize she gets (another coaster or maybe a wine bottle stopper!).

We have another day at sea tomorrow.
